Information Security Awareness Workshop

at AMS P Obul Reddy Public School

on 07th Nov 2009

to School Children, Parents & Teachers


 

Information Security Awarenes Workshop at "Andhra Mahila Sabha P Obul Reddy Public School", Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad was successfully conducted by C-DAC Hyderabad on 07th November 2009 for more than 300 School children of Standard IX to XI and to 75 Parents and Teachers from other Schools.

There was good response from Children, Parents and Teachers. The School children actively participated in quizes and won fabulous prizes by C-DAC Hyderabad. The drawing competition was also announced and children were encouraged to implement their creative thoughts in terms of Information Security and draw pictures.

The session started with Inauguration by Smt. Vijaya Lakshmi Ramesh, Principal, AMS P Obul Reddy Pubilc School and Dr. Sarat Chandra Babu, Director, C-DAC Hyderabad. The school principal addressed the gathering and gave a brief information about the workshop, and previous workshop conducted by C-DAC Hyderabad in the same school 2 years ago. She expressed her greatfulness for having C-DAC conducting wrokshops at their schools which are beneficiary to their school children now and then. Later Dr. Sarat in his inauguaral address mentioned the importance of Information Security for children, parents and teachers. He also expressed his thankfulness to the school in accepting C-DAC invitation whenever requested.

The first session was for the Children where the Security aspects related to education, browsing, searching, communication tools, passwords and many more were discussed by Mrs. Indraveni and Mr. Ch.A.S.Murty. The children answered quick to all the quetions raised during the session and were eager to know on what is SSL communication, what makes a strong password, how to deal issues at Social Networking and so on. All the queries were well handled by Mr. Ch.A.S.Murty and his team.

The second session was for parents whose gathering was of around 75 in number and 10 students from higher standards of other schools. The discussions  with parents involved many aspects of securing child at home and as school while at Internet. The queries related to encrypting the passwords, using parental control bar, safe browsing and many more were discussed.

The Pre-Survey and Post-Survey forms were distributed to the School children to perform a Survey on what the kids know and what they learnt through the workshop. A plan for conducting the Dipstick analysis was the key reason in conducting such a survey through pre and post forms.

Thus the workshop ended up successfully.
