Information Security Awareness Workshop for Teachers and Parents

On the 25th November, 2009, Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi-Goa in association with CDAC Hyderabad, Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Government of India and Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Goa oraganized a one day Wokshop on "Information Security Awareness for Teachers and Parents" at Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, Margao
Honorable Chief Minister of Goa, Shri Digambar Kamat, Chief Guest of the function, inaugurated the one day Workshop on Information Security Awareness for Teachers and Parents.
Addressing a capacity crowd, the Chief Minister laid stress on the need for Information Security. Citing examples of explicit websites and the roundabout process required to obtain official documents, Shri. Digambar Kamat assured the audience that there will be e-Governance in Goa within 3-4 years. He also revealed that Information Technology infrastructure is pivotal today and as such has a high priority.
Shri Govind Ramnath Kare, Chairman Vidya Vikas Mandal presided over the function.
Shri Bhaskar Naik, Director Higher Education was the Guest of Honor. While addressing those present, he stressed on the need for Information Security and its Awareness in today’s citizens, young and old.
Prof V. B. Kamat, Director Technical Education and Principal of Goa College of Engineering professed a strong concern and the need for security in the virtual world and proposed the vote of thanks.
Prof. A. S. Nadkarni, Principal of Kare College of Law was present on the dais. He welcomed the dignitaries and the audience to the Workshop.
Dr. V. N. Shet, Head of Electrical & Electronics department, who is also Convener for this project, gave brief details of Project sanctioned by the Government of India and the activities need to be undertaken by the college as a Participating Institution under this project. Many staff members from the institute were trained and deputed for various courses. He gave brief introduction on protecting information and information systems from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification or destruction.
The workshop coordinator Mr. Nilesh Fal Dessai and the guest speakers were also present.
