ISA Workshop by DOEACC Centre, Srinagar/Jammu

The workshop was conducted on 07th Sept 2009 at M.H.A.C School, Jammu for students as well as teachers of the school. There were total of 43 students of class XI & XII along with thier 5 teachers. The School Principal Shri. Yogesh Khosla was also actively involved during the workshop. The key speakers for the workshop were Shri. Rajnesh Raina, Shri. S.K.Sharma and Shri. D.S.Oberoi.

The workshop was held in session wise manner and the following sessions were held.

1. Introduction to ISEA project
2. Introduction to Information Security
3. Video Session - 3 part series
4. Detailed session on Threats, Vulnerabilities, Browser, IM, Downloads, anti-Virus, Firewall, OS updates, SPyware, Keyloggers etc.
5. Practival session on Firewall, Antivirus, OS updates, Internet browser, passwords
6. Question & Answer session

During the workshop students and teachers were provided awareness on threats to our information and communication, specially when using Internet. Information security  model along with threats and vulnerabilities (masquerading, sniffing, fabrication etc) were covered in depth.

In the practical session, the team members covered practical issues related to ,

1. Anti-virus signatures updating ( scheduled nad automatic)
2. Firewall usage and its configuration
3. Operating System patches and updates (downloading patches)
4. How browsers are to be used for safe browsing - history, security, auto-complete features etc.
5. Phishing, spyware and keyloggers
6. Tips for safe downloading etc.

The sessions were finally following by question - answer session where interesting questions related to simple searching and downloading information from internet as well complex questions like mechanisms of tracing emails and users on internet, encryption and steganography were asked by students and were well clarifies by the key spearkers.
